China fireworks factories ramp up production after record USA sales.
Firework factories in mainland China produce over 95% of the total fireworks consumed in the world. For the past decade, fewer and fewer factories have been getting their licenses renewed, and numbers of legally operating factories has dwindled to almost 30% of the number there was a decade ago.
2020 brought record shattering sales in the USA, and many distributors who normally carry a two year supply of stock are reporting they are, or are nearly sold out. Orders started flying into the factories in June, and quantities directly reflect the need to replenish that stock. Several concerns loom in the process including the high heat shutdowns the government has implemented during the summer in China, as well as sheer production capabilities, and potential freight issues for the amount of product that will need to be moved.
China factories have been very good about meeting global demand, but 2021 supply will be a true test of their capacity with reduced factories producing. China GB laws are also in limbo on some very popular items for the USA market including 3″ repeating items, as well as some popular UN0431 professional items, heightening the need for a global standard in fireworks production.
